Deborah Goatley-Birch is a UK-based interdisciplinary artist whose diverse practice encompasses film, sound, digital media, textiles, and painting. Her work often explores themes of culture, community, and heritage. In 2020, Deborah collaborated with Maytree Infant School in Southampton on the “All About Sea” project, coinciding with the Mayflower 400 commemorations. She guided ninety children in creating a large-scale painting inspired by the sea and the Mayflower voyage. This collaborative artwork was displayed at the Southampton City Art Gallery before becoming a permanent exhibit at the school. Deborah is also active in community engagement, leading workshops that explore various artistic techniques. For instance, she has conducted sessions on textile weaving, where participants learn about the history of weaving and create their own pieces using different loom frames. Beyond her artistic endeavors, Deborah is an advocate for autism awareness. She has been involved in campaigns to raise awareness and support for autistic artists, highlighting the therapeutic and expressive benefits of art for individuals on the autism spectrum.
